Background and Community Barriers
In Suja Malud, childbirth had traditionally taken place at home under the guidance of elders. Limited transport, low awareness of safe delivery practices, and a lack of confidence in health facilities meant that institutional deliveries were rare. Many families were simply unaware of the benefits of skilled attendance at birth.
Community Mobilisation and Trust Building
To address these barriers, NICE Foundation, with support from JHPIEGO and the Health Department, began working closely with the village community. Alongside ASHA, ANM, and Anganwadi workers, the team created a participatory approach that blended learning with discussion, helping families question long
